The AHL champs have a new bench boss.
The Toronto Marlies have named Steve Sullivan as their new head coach, the team announced on Thursday.
Sullivan replaced John Gruden, who was promoted to assistant coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs after leading the Marlies to Calder Cup glory.
"Steve has earned this opportunity through his work with both the Maple Leafs and Marlies and has built strong relationships with our young players throughout the organization," said Maple Leafs AGM and Marlies GM Ryan Hardy in a statement. "His experience as both a player and coach, combined with his commitment to player development, makes him the right person to lead the next generation of Marlies."
Mark Giordano, who finished out his playing career with the Maple Leafs and then moved into an advisory role with the organization, has been tabbed as an assistant on Sullivan's staff.
Sullivan has been with the Maple Leafs organization since 2024, first serving as an assistant coach for the Marlies, then serving the same role with the Maple Leafs.
Prior to his time in Toronto, the 52-year-old Timmins, Ont., native was with the Arizona Coyotes organization, serving in player development and eventually as an assistant general manager prior to his departure in 2021.
